Response Work: Seeing Glass

Seeing Glass

Seeing Glass is a response work for the Pensacola Museum of Art’s CITIZENS: Rhetoric, Response, Representation exhibition to poet Claudia Rankine’s Citizen: An American Lyric. This black and white illustration focuses on the idea of found and lost identity among citizens of America and how there is a mirror between oneself and society. Compared to the foreground figure’s lost identity, the people presented in the mirror of society are defined, clear, and performing daily tasks without a glance at the mirror; these are people who know their identity and place in society, a society fit for them. Although the mirror floats between identity and society, today is a day when identity is not reflected into society.
